For the Parents

As a parent of a young man, you are in a unique position that contains many challenges. While you want to provide guidance and support, you must also begin to let go. Your son has reached the age where he must venture out on his own and test himself in the world. The role of the parent is changing; you must give up control and set your son free.

Young men need to experience the world on their own terms. They push away their parents, they get into trouble, they seek new ways to express their individuality. In the past, young men were taken from the home by the elders. In the company of older men, the young men were challenged and pushed to their limits. Only after this time was a young man allowed to return to the tribe as a man.

The time has come for you to send your son away. The best thing you can do to help him grow is to let him try on his own.
